Quick answer

App Store App Name Character Limit

The App Store app name can be up to 30 characters long, and it must be at least two characters. Apple states the limit in characters, not bytes, so a Japanese or Arabic name gets the same 30 as an English one.

Updated

Where Apple states the limit

The App Store Connect field reference gives the 2 to 30 character range for the name. App Review Guideline 2.3.7 repeats it: app names must be limited to 30 characters. The same guideline tells you to pick a unique name and not to pack the metadata with trademarked terms, popular app names, pricing information or other irrelevant phrases.

Worked example

A hypothetical habit tracker called Streakly:

NameCharactersFits?
Streakly: Daily Habit Tracker29Yes
Streakly: Daily Habit Tracker & Goal Planner App48No, 18 over

Spaces, colons and ampersands count as characters. Apple states that an app is searchable by its name, so the words you spend here carry search weight that the keyword field does not need to repeat.

Edge cases

  • The name is localized, so you can set a different name per language. A name can be used for one app per localization; if another developer holds it you can submit a trademark claim.
  • You can edit the name until the app is submitted to App Review. Afterwards, change it when you create a new version or when the version status permits editing.
  • Keep the next field in mind: the subtitle has its own 30-character limit.

Next step

Paste your draft into the App Store character counter to check every field at once, then read how to split words between name and subtitle in the title and subtitle guide.

Questions

Is there a minimum length for an app name?
Yes. Apple requires at least two characters and no more than 30.
Can each language have a different app name?
Yes. The app name is localized, so each localization can carry its own name within the same 30-character limit.
