App Store keyword overlap checker

Enter the name, subtitle and keyword field of one or more localizations. The checker shows each word that is repeated between the fields of a localization, how many keyword bytes the repeat wastes, and a cleaned keyword field to paste back. Free, no sign-up, runs in your browser.

Localization 1: English (U.S.)

Repeated words in this localization

Fill in name, subtitle and keyword field.

How it works

Inside one localization, a word in the keyword field that is also in the name or subtitle, or that appears twice in the keyword field, takes space without adding anything. Apple’s search guide advises not repeating words from name, subtitle or category (Apple, App Store search). The tool counts the word and its comma as bytes wasted.

Across localizations it only lists words that sit in more than one keyword field and the bytes they take in each. It does not say how Apple combines localizations for a storefront. Check which localizations are shown where in the localizations by country table. Matching ignores case and accents and uses whole words, so Learn and learning are different words.

Examples

English: name and subtitle repeated in the keywords

Name Lingua: Learn Languages, subtitle Spanish, French & German, keywords language, learn, spanish, vocabulary, grammar, flashcards, german (59 bytes)
Repeats: learn (name, 6 bytes with comma), spanish (subtitle, 8), german (subtitle, 7). Cleaned: language, vocabulary, grammar, flashcards, 38 bytes, 21 freed. language is not flagged: it is the singular of “Languages”, and plurals are not matched.

Word twice in one keyword field

Keywords sprachen, lernen, grammatik, vokabeln, grammatik (no name or subtitle)
grammatik appears twice: the second one wastes 10 bytes (9 letters plus the comma). Cleaned: sprachen, lernen, grammatik, vokabeln.

Same word in two localizations

English keywords vocabulary, grammar, German keywords vokabeln, grammar
grammar is listed under both localizations with 8 bytes each. Review it: the tool does not say whether it is wasted.

Frequently asked questions

Why should I not repeat a word in name, subtitle and keywords?
Apple's search guide says: don't repeat any words included in your app name, subtitle or category. Apple also says your app is searchable by name, subtitle and keywords. A repeat in the keyword field takes bytes without adding a new searchable word.
Does repeating a word across localizations waste space?
We do not know, and Apple's pages do not say how localizations are combined in search. Apple states that users can search with localized keywords in the countries or regions where a localization is shown. The tool lists words that appear in several keyword fields so you can review them, without claiming they are wasted.
What does the cleaned keyword field do?
For each localization it removes words that are already in the name or subtitle of that localization and words used twice in the keyword field. Phrases stay as phrases. The freed bytes are yours to fill with new words.
Does it find plurals and similar words?
No, it matches whole words only, ignoring case and accents. Plurals are not matched. The keyword field checker flags English plurals, which Apple advises avoiding.
