Nothing is sent anywhere. Counting happens in your browser.

How it works

Each box shows the count that Apple’s limit applies to, how many are left, and turns red with the word “over” when you go past it. Green means within the limit. Below each box you also see the characters and the UTF-8 bytes, because only the keyword field is limited in bytes.

We count grapheme clusters (user-perceived characters, with Intl.Segmenter); check in App Store Connect if you use emoji. Bytes are the UTF-8 length from TextEncoder. The limits come from Apple’s App Store Connect reference (platform version information, app information).

Examples

Plain English name

Name: Lingua: Learn Languages
23 characters, 23 bytes: 7 left of 30. Within the limit.

German keyword with an umlaut

Keyword field: kalorienzähler
14 characters but 15 bytes, because ä takes 2 bytes. Japanese 語学学習 is 4 characters and 12 bytes.

Emoji in the name

Name: Fit 💪 Tracker, and 👨‍👩‍👧 Family
The first is 13 characters (the JavaScript string length is 14). The family emoji is one character but 18 bytes, so 👨‍👩‍👧 Family is 8 characters and 25 bytes.

Frequently asked questions

What are the App Store character limits?
App name 30 characters, subtitle 30 characters, promotional text 170 characters, description 4,000 characters, What's New 4,000 characters. The keyword field allows 100 bytes. All values are from Apple's App Store Connect reference, checked November 1, 2026.
Why does the keyword field count bytes?
Apple's App Store Connect reference says you can provide up to 100 bytes of content. Apple's search guide says 100 characters. For English text both are the same. For German umlauts (2 bytes each) or Japanese and Chinese characters (3 bytes each) bytes are stricter, so this tool shows both numbers and checks the bytes.
How does the counter handle emoji?
We count grapheme clusters, the characters a person sees, so a flag or a family emoji counts as one. App Store Connect's own count may treat some emoji differently. Check in App Store Connect if you use emoji.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The counting runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored or tracked.
