LocalASOQuick answer
Can You Reset App Store Ratings?
Yes. When you release a new version, you can reset the overview rating by choosing the option to reset the rating when that version is released. Apple states this affects all storefronts at once, cannot be undone after release, and does not affect written reviews.
Updated
What a reset does and does not do
| Aspect | Apple's statement |
|---|---|
| Scope | All storefronts at once |
| Reversible | No, not after release |
| Written reviews | Not affected |
| Universal apps | Applies only to the platform version being reset |
| App bundles | Ratings cannot be reset |
Why to think twice
Apple states ratings and reviews can influence how an app ranks in App Store search, alongside text relevance and downloads. A reset starts the visible rating from zero. Apple does not document how much weight a rating count has in ranking, so do not assume the effect on rank. If your current average is above what a fresh start would likely earn, resetting costs you social proof.
Worked example
A hypothetical app has 4.1 stars from old versions and ships a rewritten 3.0. The team considers a reset so that the new version is judged alone. Because it applies to every storefront at once and cannot be undone, they decide per version, not per country. A country with a strong rating cannot be kept.
Next step
Ratings sit beside text relevance in ranking; improve the text side with the keyword research guide and the keyword field guide. Related fields and limits are in the metadata limits reference. If you query listings in bulk afterwards, read the iTunes Search API rate limit and the category list.
