Search results ads (Apple Ads)
Search results ads are one of the Apple Ads placements. They show your app in the App Store search results, matched to what a person typed.

How they work
Apple states that ads in relevant search results reach people right after they search. You choose between two bidding strategies, a manual one or a conversion-maximizing one, and you either pick your own keywords or use the ones suggested. Ads are matched with people based on their search term, which Apple calls a direct signal of intent.
Paid versus organic
| Search results ad | Organic result | |
|---|---|---|
| Position | Bought through bidding | Earned through text relevance and user behavior |
| Keywords | Chosen in the campaign | Taken from your name, subtitle and keyword field |
| Control | Immediate | Slow, and Apple does not publish the weights |
Apple documents no effect of an ad on your organic rank.
Using ads for research
Because you pick keywords in the campaign, ads let you test demand for a term before you commit bytes to it. The search popularity value Apple shows is designed to help advertisers learn which keywords might matter most. Use it as a hint, then check keyword difficulty for the organic side.
Example
A hypothetical habit tracker runs a small campaign for "morning routine" and "habit streak". Both get impressions, but "morning routine" converts better. The team then adds "morning routine" to the subtitle and checks the organic keyword ranking two weeks later.
Common mistakes
- Bidding on terms the app does not serve, which wastes budget.
- Mixing paid and organic results when reading rank. Check ranks for organic results only.
