App Store Promotional Text Character Limit

The App Store Connect reference describes promotional text as a way to inform visitors of current app features without requiring an updated submission. Apple also states that promotional text does not affect App Store search ranking, and that you should not use it to display keywords. The fast-change answer covers the update workflow, and the search answer covers ranking.

For the hypothetical habit tracker Streakly, a draft such as "Winter sale on the yearly plan, new streak widgets for the Home Screen, and a calmer reminder sound. Update now for the new look." is a normal message. That draft is 129 characters, leaving 41 for one more short sentence.

Because it is localized together with the other version fields, each language needs its own text counted separately; a translation that runs longer than the English draft is the usual cause of an over-limit field.

• Putting keywords in it, hoping for ranking. Apple says it does not affect search.
• Copying the description opening. Use promotional text for what is current: an event, a sale, a new feature.
• Counting with a tool that counts bytes. This field is characters.
