Promotional text (App Store)

Promotional text is a short message of up to 170 characters that appears above the app description on your product page. It tells visitors about current features, offers or events, and you can change it whenever you like.

Updated

What makes it different

Apple states that promotional text can be updated at any time without submitting a new app version. The App Store Connect reference describes it as a way to inform visitors of current app features without requiring an updated submission. The description, by contrast, is something Apple's guidance describes updating when you submit a new version, and it suggests promotional text as the alternative for timely news.

Example

A hypothetical habit tracker could run a seasonal message: "New: widgets for your home screen. Pick a habit, tap once." That is 58 characters, well inside the 170 limit, and it can be swapped for a new line next month without waiting for review of a build.

How to use it

  • Lead with what is new or time-limited, because the line sits above the rest of the text.
  • Rewrite it for each localization rather than copying the English line.
  • Remember that each custom product page can have its own promotional text, which lets you match the message to the ad or link that sent the visitor.

Next step

Plan your full listing text with the title and subtitle guide and check lengths in the metadata limits reference.

For a message tied to a dated happening, see In-App Events.
