Quick answer
App Store Screenshot Sizes and Formats
Apple requires at least one screenshot for the iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display), and for iPad apps at least one for the iPad 13-inch display. Other device sizes can be scaled from the highest required resolution.
Updated
Mac sizes
Mac screenshots must be 16:10 and one of four sizes: 1280 x 800, 1440 x 900, 2560 x 1600 or 2880 x 1800 pixels. These are the only Mac pixel sizes in Apple's list, so export one of them rather than a custom crop.
File rules
- Formats: .jpeg, .jpg or .png.
- No alpha channel or transparency. A PNG exported with transparency is a common upload error; flatten it first.
- At least one screenshot is required per size, and up to ten can be uploaded; see how many screenshots fit.
For the exact iPhone and iPad pixel dimensions, check Apple's current screenshot specifications in App Store Connect help; this page does not list them because they change with new devices.
Worked example
A hypothetical Mac app with a 2880 x 1800 capture exports once at 16:10. A 2560 x 1600 export has the same ratio, so a single master image can serve either size after resizing. A 1920 x 1080 screenshot is 16:9, so it is not one of the four sizes.
Why the first ones matter
Depending on orientation, the first one to three screenshots appear in search results when no app preview is available. Guideline 2.3.3 says screenshots should show the app in use, not merely title art, a login page or a splash screen. Pair this with the app preview length, since a preview takes the place of those search-result images.
