App Annie and data.ai alternatives: what happened and where to go now
App Annie, later renamed data.ai, was acquired by Sensor Tower: as of November 2026 the data.ai address shows a login page that says "We've Been Acquired by Sensor Tower", and TechCrunch reported the deal on March 18, 2024. If you still have links to App Annie guides or exports, the replacement depends on which job you used it for.
People used App Annie for three different things. A single tool rarely replaces all three, so decide which one you need.

What data.ai shows now
The data.ai home page is a login screen with the acquisition notice, and its footer reads "data.ai, a Sensor Tower company". We found no public pricing or product tour there. Sensor Tower's own pricing page is a demo request form with no public prices, which is typical for enterprise market-intelligence software.
Pick the replacement by job
| Job you used App Annie for | Where to look (as of November 2026) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Market data: downloads and revenue of any app | Sensor Tower | Described as a digital market insights platform for apps, ads and audiences, sold by demo and with a free sign-up |
| Light download and revenue estimates | AppTweak free Starter plan; Appfigures | AppTweak's Starter gives download and revenue estimates, past month of history, 3 seats. Appfigures has a free Starter plan and paid plans from $9.99 per month |
| ASO: keywords, rankings, metadata | AppTweak, MobileAction, Appfigures | Paid plans with keyword limits, for example MobileAction Lite at $15 per month for 100 keywords |
| App Store keyword research for your own app | LocalASO | $29 once, Apple App Store only, estimates volume from ratings |
What a keyword tool does not replace
App Annie was best known for market estimates: downloads, revenue and usage across many apps. A keyword research tool does not produce those. LocalASO, for example, does not show downloads or revenue for other apps, works with Apple's App Store only and estimates volume from public rating counts. If you need competitor revenue or category benchmarks, look at Sensor Tower or at the lighter tools above.
If you only used it for ASO
Many developers used App Annie's ASO features to track keyword rank. For that job:
- Export your keyword list from wherever you still have it.
- Pick a keyword tool that covers your stores. The AppTweak comparison and the Sensor Tower comparison explain what the platforms offer.
- Re-check the keywords in each country. Old rank history will not carry over, so start a new baseline; the rank tracking guide shows how.
Choosing between the successor and an ASO specialist
The AppTweak versus Sensor Tower comparison is the closest like-for-like for teams. Solo developers can compare costs on the pricing page for all tools.
When Sensor Tower is the better choice
If your company needs market-wide data, ad intelligence or reporting to stakeholders, Sensor Tower is the named successor and the data.ai site sends you there. A keyword app cannot give you that.
When a keyword tool is enough
If your question is which words to put in your App Store name, subtitle and keyword field, you do not need a market intelligence platform. LocalASO is one low-cost option; see pricing.
