Developer name (App Store)

The developer name is the name of the person or company that publishes the app. Once the app is approved, it appears under the app name on App Store product pages.

Updated

Apple's rules

The developer name can be set only when you add an app for the first time. Organizations must use a registered trade name, DBA or fictitious business name. It cannot be edited later. Treat the first entry as permanent and decide it before you create the app record.

Is it searchable?

Apple states that an app is searchable by its app name, subtitle, keywords and company name. The company name is therefore a field you already have, and Apple says it should not be duplicated in the keyword field. If people search for your studio, you will match without spending bytes.

Example

A hypothetical studio called Northwind Apps publishes Streakly. A search for "northwind" can match the company name. A keyword list that adds northwind wastes bytes, as the guidance on branded keywords explains.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing a name you may outgrow, such as a product name instead of a studio name.
  • Adding the company name to the name or keyword field to chase searches.

Next step

Review the other fields you can change later in the metadata limits reference and the title and subtitle guide.
