Marketing URL (App Store)

The Marketing URL is an optional App Store Connect field that links to a web page promoting your app. Unlike the Support URL, it does not have to lead to contact details.

Updated

Apple's rules

The Marketing URL is optional, must include the protocol, and can be localized. In the App Store Connect API it is an attribute (marketingUrl) of the version localization, alongside the description and What's New.

Is it a search field?

Apple lists the app name, subtitle, keywords and company name as the fields that make an app searchable. The Marketing URL is not among them, so do not expect it to help text relevance. Its value is traffic: people who tap it land on your site, where you control the message.

When to fill it

Use it when you have a page that explains the app better than the product page can, for example a landing page with a video or press information. Leave it empty when the page would only repeat the store listing.

Example

A hypothetical app, Streakly, could set https://streakly.example in English and https://streakly.example/de in German. The German page carries the same screenshots as the German localization of the listing, so a visitor sees one consistent message.

Common mistakes

  • Forgetting the protocol, so the field is rejected.
  • Showing other platforms' names, icons or imagery in your metadata, which Guideline 2.3.10 prohibits unless approved.
  • Using it as a duplicate of the support page.

Next step

Pick the right fields to maintain in App Store Connect and see all limits in the metadata limits reference.

Contact details go in the Support URL.
