LocalASO

Use case

A cheap ASO tool: what you pay and what you give up

LocalASO costs a one-time $29 for one Mac, with no subscription. That is the cheapest way to get a full ASO workflow if you have a Mac, but the license has no refunds and you pay your own AI costs, so a free plan can be the better first step.

Who this is for

You are bootstrapped, you count recurring costs, and you do not want an ASO bill that outlasts the app's revenue.

The problems you probably have

  • Subscription fatigue. In a small sample of 18 sources (many from competing vendors), price and subscription framing was the most repeated complaint about ASO tools.
  • Plans sized for teams. Per-keyword and per-app limits make small accounts pay for what they do not use.
  • Free tiers that stop short. They may cap keywords or apps.
  • Surprise costs. AI features may mean separate credits.

What other tools cost, as of November 2026

ToolPublic price point
LocalASO$29 one-time, one Mac
Wow Keywords$99 one-time lifetime license, 2 computers per license
Astro$9 per month or $108 billed annually, single Mac license
MobileAction ASO Intelligence Lite$15 per month billed monthly, 100 keywords, 5 apps
AppTweak Essentialfrom $949 per year on annual billing (higher at other settings), 5 apps, 500 keywords
ASOMobile free plan$0, 20 keywords, 2 apps

Plans change, so read each pricing page before deciding. See the comparison pages for details.

A budget-first workflow

  1. Start with the free parts. The keyword field checker, character counter and packer cost nothing.
  2. If you buy LocalASO, activate and add your app.
  3. Pick an AI you already pay for or one that costs nothing: Ollama runs on your Mac, and Claude Code, Codex and Gemini CLI use their own plans.
  4. Work through the board, then Optimize for your top two languages only. Do not localize 52 storefronts on day one.
  5. Re-check ranks after each release.

What the low price does not include

  • No refunds. All LocalASO sales are final. The download is free, but the app needs a license key to run, so read the docs and FAQ before you buy.
  • One Mac per license.
  • No Google Play, no Windows, no web version, no team seats.
  • No AI credits. You bring your own.
  • Estimates only for volume and difficulty.

How to decide

Count the cost over the life of the app, not per month. A subscription tool is cheap if you use it for one weekend and expensive if it runs for three years unused. A one-time license is cheap if you use it for years, and a loss if you stop after a week, because sales are final. If you are unsure, read the docs to see every screen of the workflow and use the free web tools first; the app itself needs a license key to run. Also price your time: a tool that finds the next keyword change in an hour is worth more to a one-person project than a lower sticker price that takes a weekend of setup.

Next step

Download the free app, look at your own board, then decide. Download or see pricing. Related: side projects and localization agencies.
