How to switch from a subscription ASO tool to LocalASO without losing your keywords
To switch from a subscription ASO tool, export your keyword list and any history you need, add the keywords to LocalASO, let it run its first rank checks, and cancel the old subscription only after you have compared the results. LocalASO has no trial and all sales are final, so the order matters.
This guide assumes you track keywords for your own App Store apps in a tool such as AppTweak, MobileAction or Appfigures, and you want a $29 one-time Mac app instead. If you also rely on Google Play, read the list of what you lose before you start.
Updated
Before you start: is switching the right move?
Switch if you only work on the Apple App Store, you work alone and your monthly bill covers more keywords or seats than you use. As of November 2026 AppTweak's Essential plan starts at $949 per year, and MobileAction Lite at $15 per month. Do not switch if you need Google Play data, shared dashboards, or Apple's own popularity numbers. LocalASO runs on macOS 14 or later, activates on one Mac and estimates volume from ratings.
Step 1: export what you will not be able to rebuild
Your old tool holds three things:
- The keyword list. Copy or export it per app and country. Check the old tool's help center for export formats; we did not verify one for each vendor.
- Rank history. LocalASO stores its own daily history from your first check on. Earlier history will not transfer, so export charts or tables for the periods you want to keep.
- Competitor lists. Write down the competitor apps you follow.
Step 2: add your apps to LocalASO
Install the app, paste your license key and add each app by pasting an App Store link, the numeric ID or the name. Mark your competitors as competitors. The import reads the public listing in each storefront, derives your current keywords and proposes ideas.
Step 3: bring your keywords across
Add your exported keywords to the board as ideas. If you have many, ask your own AI through the MCP server to add them, for example "add these 80 keywords to my app as ideas, localized to Germany, France and Japan, then check them". The board_add_keywords and keywords_check tools do that. See the keyword research docs for the board.
Step 4: let the first checks finish
Apple limits its public search to roughly 20 to 30 searches per minute per IP address, and LocalASO stays under that. Checking 15 keywords in 30 countries takes about 15 to 20 minutes. A large list takes longer, so start before you plan to cancel. Compare the first results with the old tool's current ranks for your top 20 keywords. Small differences are normal; large ones are worth investigating in the rank tracking guide.
Step 5: cancel the old plan
Cancel after you are happy. Check the old tool's cancellation terms: AppTweak, for example, states a 48-hour refund policy after the first charge, so a charge you have already paid for may not be refundable. Put the renewal date in your calendar so the overlap costs at most one billing period.
What you lose
| You lose | Why |
|---|---|
| Google Play | LocalASO works with Apple's App Store only |
| Apple popularity scores | LocalASO's volume and difficulty are estimates from ratings |
| Team seats and web access | One license, one Mac |
| Historical data in the old tool | It does not transfer |
| Vendor support and a trial | LocalASO has none; all sales are final |
What you keep or gain
Your keyword work, the local database on your Mac, 52 storefronts, listing drafts from your own AI that you can upload to App Store Connect as drafts, and no renewal date. Compare yearly costs on the pricing comparison, then see the AppTweak alternative page and LocalASO pricing.
Questions
- Can I import my AppTweak keywords into LocalASO?
- LocalASO's docs describe no importer for other tools' files. You export or copy your keyword list from your current tool, then add the keywords to the LocalASO board in the app or by asking your own AI to add them through the MCP server.
- Will I lose my ranking history when I switch?
- Yes, the history stays in the old tool. AppTweak Essential lists 6 months of history, so export what you need before you cancel.
- Should I cancel the subscription first?
- No. Keep it until LocalASO has finished checking your keywords, because LocalASO has no trial and sales are final.
