App Store Connect API

The App Store Connect API is Apple's programmatic interface to App Store Connect. Tools use it to read and write the same listing data you edit in the web interface, so metadata can be managed by script instead of by hand.

Updated

What it exposes for ASO

Listing text is stored in two kinds of localization records, each tied to a locale code such as en-US:

RecordAttributes
App-info localizationlocale, name, subtitle, privacyPolicyText, privacyPolicyUrl, privacyChoicesUrl
Version localizationdescription, keywords, locale, marketingUrl, promotionalText, supportUrl, whatsNew

This split mirrors the app-level and version-level fields described under app version.

How it differs from the iTunes Search API

The iTunes Search API is a public endpoint at itunes.apple.com that returns search results for anyone. The App Store Connect API acts on your own apps, needs authorization through your developer account and can change data, not just read it. One shows what the store displays; the other manages what you submit.

Example

A script for a hypothetical app reads the English version localization, sends the keywords to a translation step, and writes the de-DE keywords back to the German version localization. A person still reviews the result before anything is submitted.

In LocalASO

LocalASO can upload listing text to App Store Connect as a draft and never submits an app for review. You review and submit in App Store Connect yourself. The steps are in the App Store Connect docs.

Common mistakes

  • Writing the name to the version localization. Name and subtitle belong to the app-info record.
  • Sending the wrong locale string.

Next step

Read the localization guide to plan which languages to write.
