ASO glossary
Mac App Store
The Mac App Store is the part of Apple's App Store where macOS apps are listed and downloaded. Its listings have the same core fields as iPhone apps, with a few differences in media and category handling.

Differences that matter for ASO
- Screenshots. Mac screenshots must be 16:10 and one of 1280x800, 1440x900, 2560x1600 or 2880x1800 pixels. Up to 10 screenshots per device size may be uploaded. See screenshots.
- Previews. App previews are supported for macOS, with up to three per supported device size and language. See app preview.
- Category. For macOS apps the category is also set in Xcode, and the primary category in App Store Connect should match it.
The rest of the listing, such as app name, subtitle and keyword field, follows the same rules and limits as other platforms.
Example
A hypothetical Mac habit app uploads 2880x1800 screenshots, sets Productivity in Xcode, and sets Productivity as primary in App Store Connect. If the two differ, App Store Connect's guidance says they should match.
Host platform versus target platform
LocalASO itself is a Mac app for macOS 14 or later, on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. It works with Apple's App Store only. That describes where LocalASO runs and which store it covers; see the LocalASO docs for details.
Common mistakes
- Using iPhone screenshot sizes for a Mac listing.
- Setting a different category in Xcode than in App Store Connect.
