App Analytics (App Store Connect)

App Analytics is the area of App Store Connect where you see how people find and use your app. Apple states that it lets you measure user engagement, marketing campaigns and monetization.

Where ASO uses it

Two ASO features report their results here:

These are display thresholds. They tell you when the numbers appear, not when a result is trustworthy. Five downloads is far too few to prove that one variant beats another.

What it helps you answer

  • Did a metadata update change the number of people who view the page?
  • Which screenshots variant converts better?
  • Did a campaign page outperform the default?

You calculate conversion rate from these counts.

What it does not tell you

App Analytics shows what happened on your page. It does not show how often a keyword is searched, where you rank for it or what competitors do. For that you need rank tracking and keyword tools such as the keyword research guide describes.

Example

A hypothetical team changes its first screenshot and the subtitle in the same release. App Analytics shows more downloads, but they cannot say which change did it. A better plan is to change one, as the metadata update page suggests.

Next step

Open App Analytics, pick one metric and write down its baseline before you change anything.

Download types are defined under first-time downloads and redownloads; sources are explained under traffic sources and impressions.
